Si me preguntáis, son suficientes tres días para ver Menorca? Creo que la respuesta es no, para vivir esta isla a fondo y explorar muchos de sus rincones necesitáis un período más largo, no obstante con tres días podéis disfrutarla intensamente, recorrer sus indispensables e iros con la total seguridad de que querréis volver a buscar más.
En mi tercera vez en la isla volví a recorrer algunos de mis lugares favoritos, pero también descubrí otros nuevos que me robaron el corazón y que quiero compartiros a lo largo de este post, así que, empecemos!
If you ask me, if three days are enough to see Menorca? I think the answer is no, to live this island fully and explore many of its corners you need a longer period, however with three days you can enjoy it intensely, visit its essentials and leave with the total security that you will want to look for more.
In my third time on the island I went back to visit some of my favorite places, but I also discovered new ones that stole my heart and that I want to share with you throughout this post, so let’s get started!
Por primera vez no me he alojado en la zona de Ciutadella, y sinceramente, menos mal! Es la primera vez que visito la isla en Agosto (temporada super-mega-alta), y lo primero que tenéis que saber y asimilar es esto: hay mucha gente. Mucha para ver las calas, para recorrer las ciudades, para comer en los restaurantes,… Por eso no pudimos tener mejor idea que hospedarnos en una villa, concretamente en Villa Belvedere.
Ubicada en el corazón de Cala en Porter, se trata de una preciosa villa de estilo balear, con dos habitaciones dobles, un baño, cocina (totalmente equipada), salón (con sofá cama), terraza y una increíble piscina privada. Además de eso, al estar al lado del acantilado también tiene unas vistas preciosas del mar.
Los propietarios de la villa son super amables, nos explicaron todo a la perfección y tenían preparadas todas las facilidades a nuestra llegada: bebidas, kit de limpieza, toallas, sábanas, plancha de la ropa (sabéis que siempre resalto esto por lo importante que es para mí),… La casa también cuenta con una amplia zona en la entrada donde se puede aparcar cómodamente el coche.
For the first time I have not stayed in the Ciutadella area, and honestly, thank goodness! It’s the first time I visit the island in August (super-mega-high season), and the first thing you have to know and assimilate is this: there are many people. A lot to see the coves, to visit the cities, to eat in the restaurants,… That is why we could not have a better idea than to stay in a villa, specifically in Villa Belvedere.
Located in the heart of Cala en Porter, it’s a beautiful Balearic style villa, with two double bedrooms, one bathroom, kitchen (fully equipped), living room (with sofa bed), terrace and an incredible private pool. Besides that, being next to the cliff it also has beautiful views of the sea.
The owners of the villa are super friendly, they explained everything to us perfectly and they had all the facilities prepared upon our arrival: drinks, cleaning kit, towels, sheets, clothes iron (you know that I always highlight this because of how important it is for me),… The house also has a large area at the entrance where you can comfortably park your car.
A nivel de descanso y de tranquilidad ha sido una experiencia increíble. Hemos podido disfrutar de las vistas del mar, la tranquilidad de la zona y la libertad de poder preparar nuestra propia comida o, como hicimos en más de una ocasión, ir a buscarla a un restaurante cercano y disfrutarla cómodamente en nuestra terraza.
El hecho de tener una piscina y zona de solarium sólo para nosotras también fue todo un lujo. En general las playas siempre están muy llenas, personalmente no es algo que me guste nunca, pero con la situación sanitaria actual, me preocupada. Así que lo que hicimos fue madrugar para visitar algunas calas (de las que ahora os hablaré) y disfrutar el resto del día el nuestra piscina! La empresa que se ocupa del alquiler de la misma es Menorcapartamentos.
At the level of rest and tranquility it has been an incredible experience. We have been able to enjoy the views of the sea, the tranquility of the area and the freedom of being able to prepare our own food or, as we did on more than one occasion, go find it to a nearby restaurant and enjoy it comfortably on our terrace.
Having a pool and solarium area just for us was also a luxury. In general, the beaches are always very crowded, personally it is something that I never like, but with the current health situation, I am worried. So what we did was get up early to visit some coves (which I will now talk about) and enjoy the rest of the day in our pool! The company that takes care of the rental is Menorcapartamentos.
Como os podéis imaginar, no pudimos visitar todas las calas, así que optamos por mis favoritas:
-Cala Turqueta: intento fallido. Pese a llegar algo antes de las 10:00 am el parking ya estaba completo (desde las 7:30 am según nos dijeron los trabajadores de la zona), y no nos quedó más remedio que buscar otra opción.
-Cala Mitjana: siempre entre mis favoritas. Es una cala, pero tiene un parking bastante grande y es una cala bastante extensa. Para llegar a ella hay que caminar unos 10/15 minutos, pero la zona está bien preparada.
-Cala Macarelleta: las mejores aguas de la isla, en mi opinión. Sólo tiene un par de «inconvenientes»: tendréis que caminar unos 40 minutos por una zona de tierra rocas para llegar a Macarella, y desde ahí unos 10 minutos más hasta Macarelleta (y luego vuelta), por una zona tipo acantilado rocoso, por lo que no me parece un plan nada apto para personas con problemas de movilidad o de edad muy avanzada; además es una cala muy muy pequeñita, por lo que os tocará seguramente esperar a que alguien deje su hueco en la arena para poder colocar vuestra toalla. Hace unos años estas calas tenían su propio parking y se podía llegar en coche, a día de hoy, al menos en temporada alta, está cerrado, pero sí existen unos autobuses que llegan a Macarella. OJO es muy importante reservarlos con bastante antelación.
-Son Bou: se trata de una playa de unos 3km de largo, no tiene el aspecto tan salvaje y paradisíaco que tienen otras calas, pero parece sacada del Caribe, una arena finísima y super blanca y aguas cristalinas. A su favor: se aparca cerca, no hay que caminar casi para llegar a ella y lo más normal es que encuentres sitio fácilmente.
As you can imagine, we couldn’t visit all the coves, so we opted for my favorites:
-Cala Turqueta: failed attempt. Despite arriving somewhat before 10:00 am, the parking lot was already full (from 7:30 am according to the workers in the area), and we had no choice but to look for another option.
-Cala Mitjana: always among my favorites. It is a cove, but it has a fairly large parking lot and it’s a fairly extensive cove. To get there you have to walk about 10/15 minutes, but the area is well prepared.
-Cala Macarelleta: the best waters on the island, in my opinion. It only has a couple of «drawbacks»: you will have to walk about 40 minutes through an area of rocky land to get to Macarella, and from there about 10 more minutes to Macarelleta (and then back), through a rocky cliff-like area, so that I don’t think it’s a plan at all suitable for people with mobility problems or the very old; It’s also a very very small cove, so you will surely have to wait for someone to leave their hole in the sand to be able to place your towel. A few years ago these coves had their own parking and could be reached by car, today, at least in high season, it is closed, but there are some buses that go to Macarella. NOTE it is very important to reserve them well in advance.
-Son Bou: it’s a beach about 3 km long, it doesn’t have the wild and paradisiacal aspect that other coves have, but it seems to be taken from the Caribbean, with very fine and super white sand and crystal clear waters. In its favor: it’s parked nearby, you don’t have to walk almost to get to it and the most normal thing is that you find a place easily.
Los núcleos urbanos que visitamos fueron: Ciutadella, siempre es una parada obligada, en mi opinión esta vez no la pude disfrutar tanto, porque la cantidad de gente era tremenda, pero pasear sus calles sin prisa, descubrir sus rincones y las distintas panorámicas del puerto es un regalo para la vista; Binibeca Vell, fue nuestra última visita, madrugamos mucho y llegamos allí a las 9:30 am, aparcamos sin problema y disfrutamos durante unos treinta minutos de todo el pueblecito para nosotras solas, hicimos miles de fotos y respiramos su esencia, la verdad es que fue mágico; y Mahón, como no teníamos mucho tiempo tuvimos que optar por una visita nocturna, aún así me pareció una ciudad con mucho encanto y, sobre todo, una gran oferta en lo que a tiendas y restaurantes se refiere.
The urban centers that we visited were: Ciutadella, it’s always an obligatory stop, in my opinion this time I couldn’t enjoy it so much, because the number of people was tremendous, but strolling its streets without haste, discovering its corners and the different views of the port it is a sight for sore eyes; Binibeca Vell, it was our last visit, we got up very early and got there at 9:30 a.m., we parked without problem and enjoyed for about thirty minutes the whole town to ourselves, we took thousands of photos and breathed its essence, the truth is that it was magical; and Mahón, as we did not have much time, we had to opt for a night visit, even so it seemed to me a city with a lot of charm and, above all, a great offer in terms of shops and restaurants.
Voy a terminar este pequeño repaso con las puestas de sol, las tres que vimos fueron nuevas para mí, y no pudieron gustarme más.
La primera, en el lugar en que se ubica nuestra villa, en Cala en Porter, no se vio caer el sol directamente pero casi, y los colores del cielo son maravillosos.
La segunda, en Cala Morell, esta parada es obligada, precioso, sin palabras para describir tanta belleza. No se ve el sol, pero el color del cielo es increíble. Además allí cenamos en Ivette, un famoso Beach Club con unas vistas increíbles, eso sí, tiene una espera de dos semanas para reservar, nosotras pudimos cenar de auténtica casualidad, no me preguntéis cómo porque ni siquiera yo misma lo se a día de hoy.
Finalmente, y una de las que más ganas tenía de ver, Pont d’en Gil. Personalmente, me encantó, pero debéis de tener en cuenta: se llena hasta un punto inimaginable, la parte buena es que es un acantilado muy muy grande, y «hay sitio para todos», pero puede que no haya sitio para todos los coches, así que si vais con el tiempo muy justo, el aparcar os puede hacer perderos la puesta de sol, también debéis saber que para vislumbrar «el puente» que forma el agujero en la roca, hay que caminar unos 5 minutos por el acantilado. Luego sólo tenéis que coger sitio y disfrutar!
I’m going to finish this little review with the sunsets, the three we saw were new to me, and I couldn’t like them more.
The first, in the place where our villa is located, in Cala en Porter, we didn’t see the sun go down directly but almost, and the colors of the sky are wonderful.
The second, in Cala Morell, this stop is a must, beautiful, without words to describe such beauty. You can’t see the sun, but the color of the sky is incredible. Also there we had dinner at Ivette, a famous Beach Club with incredible views, yes, it has a two-week wait to reserve, we were able to have dinner by real chance, do not ask me how because not even I know it to this day.
Finally, and one of the ones I most wanted to see, Pont d’en Gil. Personally, I loved it, but you must bear in mind: it gets crowded to an unimaginable point, the good part is that it is a very, very large cliff, and «there is room for everyone», but there may not be space for all cars, so if you go with the right time, parking can make you miss the sunset, you should also know that to glimpse «the bridge» that forms the hole in the rock, you have to walk about 5 minutes along the cliff. Then you just have to take a place and enjoy!
Y con esto concluyo este repaso por mis tres días express en Menorca. Como os decía al principio, siempre querréis más de esta isla, pero sin duda es mejor conocerla tres días intensamente, que no vivirla.

And with this I conclude this review of my three express days in Menorca. As I said at the beginning, you will always want more of this island, but without a doubt it is better to know it intensely for three days, than not to live it.
