Vamos con el final de nuestro gran viaje de verano, vamos a descubrir juntas nuestras cuatro últimas noches en la isla de Creta, las que sin duda, más me tocaron el corazón.
Soy una gran amante de Grecia, por el momento he visitado Atenas un par de veces, Mykonos, Santorini y ahora Creta. Siempre encuentro en este país una luz, una calidez, unas gentes… un «je ne sais quoi», que me enamora. Pero para ser del todo sincera, creo que en la zona de Heraklión me costaba un poco ver esa esencia griega que siempre he ido encontrando en mis viajes, y lo cierto es que fue montarnos en el coche y poner rumbo hacia la zona de Chania, y mi percepción comenzó a cambiar radicalmente.
La distancia en coche entre Heraklión y Chania es de unas dos horas y media, por el camino hicimos una parada para conocer Rethymno y su puerto, aunque fue muy breve y en seguida llegamos a Chania. Su colorido puerto, la mezquita y las calles llenas de colores y vida me gustaron mucho, aunque tengo que reconocer que tampoco estas dos ciudades fueron mis zonas favorita de Creta, ahora vamos a llegar a eso… y de paso, a nuestro alojamiento para estos días.
En la zona más occidental de Creta se encuentra Falsarna. Este fue, para mi gusto, mi gran descubrimiento en Creta. Una zona llena de paz, de calma, con la luz griega que tanto me gusta ver, con restaurantes increíbles y llena de gente maravillosa, queréis más? Las mejores puestas de sol de la isla, están aquí. No dudaría dos veces si alguien me pregunta si volvería a esta zona, la respuesta es sí. Estoy segura de que ya estáis convencidas de querer visitarla, y eso que aún no os he hablado de nuestro alojamiento, ni de las playas de esta zona.
Diamond Star Hotel Falasarna fue nuestra casa en los últimos días en Creta, y qué casa! Se trata de un hotel familiar, abierto desde hace poco más de un mes, en el que vais a encontrar: comodidad, tranquilidad, hospitalidad y, para mi gusto personal, una estancia de auténtico y verdadero lujo.
Creo que no olvidaré jamás nuestra llegada a Falasarna. Desde el coche fuimos viendo cómo caía el sol y los pueblecitos que pasábamos me iban anunciando que esta parte de la isla sería mi favorita. Llegamos sobre las nueve de la noche a nuestro hotel, nos estaban esperando y nos llevaron hasta nuestra habitación. El sol se había puesto hacía un rato, pero el cielo estaba de tantos colores, tan bonito, tan mágico. Nuestra habitación, totalmente nueva y decorada con un estilo moderno y elegante tenía una terraza acristalada con vistas directamente sobre el mar y la zona en la que se pone el sol. Volvimos cada día a contemplar la puesta de sol desde el hotel, resultaba hipnótico.
Además Diamond Star Hotel Falasarna cuenta con una piscina que tiene vistas directas sobre el mar (uno de los días vimos la puesta de sol desde aquí), y no pudimos estar más a gusto y tranquilos. Por último tengo que hacer mención a sus desayunos, son a la carta, caseros y muy buenos. Sin duda mi percepción tan positiva sobre esta parte de la isla estuvo totalmente influenciada por la grata experiencia que fue nuestro alojamiento, si decidís visitar esta zona, no dejéis de reservar con ellos.
En cuanto a la comida en esta zona de la isla, fue absolutamente increíble en todos los restaurantes, pero voy a hacer una mención especial a dos de ellos, que me gustaron especialmente: Spilios y Motakis.
Las playas en esta zona de la isla son maravillosas, de los tres días que nos quedaban pasamos uno disfrutando de las playas cercanas y de nuestro hotel!
Otro día fuimos a conocer Elafonisi, y otro Balos. Ambas son dos playas increíbles, de arena fina y blanca y aguas totalmente cristalinas, con razón se conoce como el caribe griego, ahora bien, no tienen nada que ver entre sí.
Elafonisi es de muy facil acceso en coche, la carretera hasta llegar es de montaña y muy sinuosa, pero está completamente asfaltada y cuenta con un parking muy grande, así que no tendréis ningún problema! En las inmediaciones hay bastantes puestos con comida y bebida.
Balos es bastante diferente, su acceso está dentro de un parque natural, para llegar hasta ella tendréis que: pagar la entrada al parque natural (un euro por personas), conducir unos 7km por un camino sin acondicionar, lo que os llevará como 30 minutos, y más os vale hacerlo con cuidado, los accidentes producidos «off road» no están cubiertos por ningún seguro, por muy a todo riesgo que sea. La parte buena es que las vistas desde el acantilado son preciosas y seguro que veréis muchas cabras kriki!
Una vez lleguéis a la zona de parking, que es bastante reducida, os tocará dejar el coche, según vuestra hora de llegada más o menos cerca del camino que conduce a la playa. Si lográis aparcar en el propio parking, os esperan unos 30 minutos de caminata, cuesta abajo para llegar a la playa, cuesta arriba para volver. Las vistas son INCREÍBLES, así que, para mi gusto, sin duda merece la pena. Otra opción para llegar a Balos es coger un ferry, pero esta opción nos gustaba menos por tener que depender de horarios, al final tu coche te ofrece mucha más libertad, y te obliga a hacer el paseo a pie que tiene las mejores vistas! En esta playa hay sólo un par de puestos de comida y bebida, bastante caros (para ser Grecia) y la comida es bastante mala (para ser Grecia), así que os recomiendo llevar unos bocatas!
Ambas playas como ya os he comentado son increíbles, aguas totalmente transparentes y arena fina y blanca mezclada con zonas de piedra blanca, me habría quedado horas y horas bañándome!
Y con la última puesta de sol desde la terraza de nuestra habitación pusimos el broche final a este viaje. Un viaje increíble y que sin duda llevaré para siempre en mi corazón, espero haberos acercado a él a través de este post!

We are coming to the end of our great summer trip, we’re going to discover together our last four nights on the island of Crete, the ones that undoubtedly touched my heart the most.
I’m a great lover of Greece, so far I have visited Athens a couple of times, Mykonos, Santorini and now Crete. I always find in this country a light, a warmth, people… a «je ne sais quoi», that makes me fall in love. But to be completely honest, I think that in the Heraklion area it was a bit difficult for me to see that Greek essence that I have always been finding in my travels, and the truth is that it was to get in the car and head towards the Chania area, and my perception began to change radically.
The distance by car between Heraklion and Chania is about two and a half hours, on the way we made a stop to get to know Rethymno and its port, although it was very short and we immediately arrived in Chania. I liked its colorful port, the mosque and the streets full of colors and life, although I have to admit that these two cities were not my favorite areas of Crete either, now we are going to get to that… and incidentally, to our accommodation For these days.
In the westernmost part of Crete is Falsarna. This was, for my taste, my great discovery in Crete. An area full of peace, calm, with the Greek light that I like to see so much, with incredible restaurants and full of wonderful people, do you want more? The best sunsets on the island are here. I wouldn’t hesitate twice if someone asks me if I would go back to this area, the answer is yes. I’m sure that you are already convinced of wanting to visit it, and that I have not yet told you about our accommodation, or about the beaches in this area.
Diamond Star Hotel Falasarna was our home for the last few days in Crete, and what a home! It’s a family hotel, open for just over a month, where you will find: comfort, tranquility, hospitality and, for my personal taste, a stay of authentic and true luxury.
I think I will never forget our arrival in Falasarna. From the car we watched the sun go down and the little villages we passed announced to me that this part of the island would be my favorite. We arrived at our hotel around nine o’clock at night, they were waiting for us and took us to our room. The sun had set a while ago, but the sky was so many colors, so beautiful, so magical. Our room, totally new and decorated in a modern and elegant style, had a glazed terrace with views directly over the sea and the area where the sun sets. We went back every day to watch the sunset from the hotel, it was hypnotic.
In addition, Diamond Star Hotel Falasarna has a swimming pool that has direct views of the sea (one of the days we saw the sunset from here), and we could not be more comfortable and calm. Finally I have to mention their breakfasts, they are a la carte, homemade and very good. Without a doubt, my very positive perception of this part of the island was totally influenced by the pleasant experience that our accommodation was, if you decide to visit this area, do not forget to book with them.
As for the food in this area of the island, it was absolutely amazing in all the restaurants, but I will make a special mention of two of them, which I especially liked: Spilios and Motakis.
The beaches in this area of the island are wonderful, of the three days we had left we spent one enjoying the nearby beaches and our hotel!
Another day went to meet Elafonisi, and another Balos. Both are two incredible beaches, with fine white sand and totally crystal clear waters, it is rightly known as the Greek Caribbean, however, they have nothing to do with each other.
Elafonisi is very easily accessible by car, the road to get there is mountainous and very winding, but it’s completely paved and has a very large parking lot, so you will not have any problems! In the immediate vicinity there are quite a few stalls with food and drink.
Balos is quite different, its access is within a natural park, to get to it you will have to: pay the entrance to the natural park (one euro per person), drive about 7km along an unpaved road, which will take you about 30 minutes , and you better do it carefully, accidents produced «off road» are not covered by any insurance, no matter how full risk it may be. The good part is that the views from the cliff are beautiful and you will surely see many kriki goats!
Once you arrive at the parking area, which is quite small, you will have to leave the car, depending on your arrival time, more or less near the path that leads to the beach. If you manage to park in the car park itself, a 30-minute walk awaits you, downhill to get to the beach, uphill to return. The views are AMAZING, so in my opinion, it’s definitely worth it. Another option to get to Balos is to take a ferry, but we liked this option less because we had to depend on schedules, in the end your car offers you much more freedom, and forces you to do the walk that has the best views! On this beach there are only a couple of food and drink stalls, quite expensive (for Greece) and the food is quite bad (for Greece), so I recommend you bring some sandwiches!
Both beaches, as I have already mentioned, are incredible, totally transparent waters and fine white sand mixed with areas of white stone, I would have stayed for hours and hours bathing!
And with the last sunset from the terrace of our room we put the finishing touch to this trip. An incredible journey that I will undoubtedly carry forever in my heart, I hope I have brought you closer to it through this post!
