Empiezo con este post a relatar nuestro «gran viaje del verano 2022». Estuvo compuesto por tres destinos: Florencia, Roma y Creta. Así que vamos con mis recomendaciones sobre el primero de ellos: la bella Florencia!
Aterrizamos en el aeropuerto de Florencia en un vuelo directo desde Barcelona, una vez allí tomamos el tranvía, que es la opción más rápida y económica, por sólo 1,50 eur llegamos al centro de la ciudad en unos veinte minutos!
Desde allí caminamos escasos cinco minutos para llegar al que fue nuestro hogar en la ciudad de Florencia, el hotel 25 hours Piazza San Paolino. Es un hotel de cuatro estrellas ubicado en el centro de la ciudad, lo que lo convierte en el cómplice perfecto, ya que los principales atractivos turísticos de la ciudad están, como mucho, a diez minutos andando.
La temática del hotel no deja indiferente a nadie, una parte de las habitaciones son el paradiso, y la otra es el inferno! Dudé bastante cuál elegir, pero finalmente mi espíritu angelical salió a flote, así que nuestra habitación estaba ubicada en el ala Paradiso.
Cuenta con un restaurante con una decoración moderna y vanguardista, en ese mismo lugar se sirven los desayunos que son tipo buffet y con muchas delicias típicas de la zona. El hotel también está equipado con gimnasio y zonas chill out para tomar un cocktail por la noche. El ambiente es buenísimo, era la primera vez que nos alojábamos en algún hotel de esta cadena y la experiencia ha resultado maravillosa. Es una delicia encontrar sorpresas inesperadas en cada rincón, sin duda repetiríamos!
Entrando de lleno en la visita de la ciudad, os cuento, llegamos un 20 de julio por la noche, aprovechamos para cenar y dar un paseo hasta la catedral, sin duda el monumento más imponente de la ciudad. Personalmente la vista me gusta más de día (por sus colores), pero tengo que reconocer que llegar a la plaza mientras sonaba la melodía de «my heart will go on» interpretada por algún músico callejero, fue mágico.
Aquí hago un break para haceros una advertencia, entrar a la catedral es gratuito, pero si queréis subir a la cúpula Brunellesci, sólo puede hacerse comprando un pack que incluye la entrada a la cúpula, el campanile, Battisterio y Museo dell’Opera. En teoría se puede adquirir online (cuando fuimos la web no funcionaba) y al ir a comprarlas en la propia plaza, encontramos que estaban agotadas hasta la siguiente semana, así que si la subida a la cúpula es imprescindible para vosotros, tratad de comprarlas con antelación, o bien contratar alguna excursión guiada con acceso a la cúpula! Si como nosotros os quedáis sin el pase, la buena noticia es que la cúpula se ve perfectamente desde el interior de la catedral (donde es gratis entrar), únicamente no podréis ver las pinturas tan de cerca ni acceder al mirador.
Volvimos a nuestro hotel para reponer fuerzas, los dos días siguientes fueron intensos! Comenzamos con las visitas a las Galerías Uffizzi y Accademia (no podéis dejar de ver en vivo y directo El David, es una locura, tanto si te gusta el arte como si no). Para esto utilizamos la Florence City Pass de Turbopass, también nos incluía otras visitas, como la del museo interactivo de Miguel Angel, que también utilizamos!
Ese mismo día visitamos la Piazza della Signoria, el exterior del Palazzo Vecchio y volvimos a la zona de la catedral para disfrutarla de día! Para este momento ya estábamos agotados (el calor en julio es demasiado intenso), así que subimos a rooftop para disfrutar las vistas y la puesta de sol!
Nuestro último día disponíamos del día completo, ya que nuestro tren a Roma salía por la noche, así que aprovechamos para ver el Ponte Vecchio desde distintos ángulos y también para cruzarlo y detenernos en los escaparates de las decenas de joyerías que lo componen. Por supuesto hicimos la visita obligada al Mercato Nuovo, y le frotamos el hocico al porcellino para atraer toda la buena suerte!
Volvimos a la catedral para acceder a su interior, tal y como os he explicado un poco más arriba, esta visita es obligatoria, al igual que el David!
No faltaron los helados, la pizza y la pasta! No obstante ninguno de los lugares en los que comimos me impactó por su calidad o su relación calidad-precio como para que considere que merezca ser mencionado aquí! Lo que sí hicimos fue utilizar la aplicación The Fork, en Italia funciona muy bien y encontramos bastantes ofertas muy interesantes!

I start with this post to tell about our «great trip of summer 2022». It was made up of three destinations: Florence, Rome and Crete. So let’s go with my recommendations on the first of them: the beautiful Florence!
We landed at the Florence airport on a direct flight from Barcelona, once there we took the tram, which is the fastest and cheapest option, for only 1.50 euros we reached the city center in about twenty minutes! From there we walked just five minutes to reach what was our home in the city of Florence, the hotel 25 hours Piazza San Paolino. It’s a four-star hotel located in the center of the city, which makes it the perfect accomplice, since the main tourist attractions of the city are, at most, a ten-minute walk away.
The theme of the hotel leaves no one indifferent, one part of the rooms is paradise, and the other is hell! I was very hesitant about which one to choose, but finally my angelic spirit surfaced, so our room was located in the Paradiso wing.
It has a restaurant with a modern and avant-garde decoration, in that same place the breakfasts are served that are buffet style and with many typical delicacies of the area. The hotel is also equipped with a gym and chill out areas to have a cocktail at night. The atmosphere is great, it was the first time we stayed in a hotel of this chain and the experience has been wonderful. It’s a delight to find unexpected surprises in every corner, we would definitely repeat!
Entering fully into the visit of the city, I tell you, we arrived on July 20 at night, we took the opportunity to have dinner and take a walk to the cathedral, without a doubt the most imposing monument in the city. Personally, I like the view better during the day (because of its colors), but I have to admit that arriving at the square while the melody of «my heart will go on» played by a street musician was magical.
Here I take a break to give you an advice, entering the cathedral is free, but if you want to go up to the Brunellesci dome, it can only be done by buying a pack that includes admission to the dome, the campanile, Battistero and Museo dell’Opera. In theory you can buy them online (when we went the website didn’t work) and when we went to buy them in the square itself, we found that they were sold out until the following week, so if the climb to the dome is essential for you, try to buy them with in advance, or hire a guided tour with access to the dome! If like us you are left without a pass, the good news is that the dome can be seen perfectly from inside the cathedral (where it is free to enter), only you will not be able to see the paintings so closely or access the viewpoint.
We went back to our hotel to get our strength back, the next two days were intense! We start with visits to the Uffizzi and Accademia Galleries (you can’t miss seeing El David live and direct, it’s crazy, whether you like art or not). For this we used the Florence City Pass from Turbopass, it also included other visits, such as the one to the interactive museum of Michelangelo, which we also used!
That same day we visited the Piazza della Signoria, the exterior of the Palazzo Vecchio and we returned to the cathedral area to enjoy it during the day! By this time we were already exhausted (the heat in July is too intense), so we went up to the rooftop to enjoy the views and the sunset!
Our last day we had the whole day, since our train to Rome left at night, so we took the opportunity to see the Ponte Vecchio from different angles and also to cross it and stop at the windows of the dozens of jewelers that make it up. Of course we made the obligatory visit to the Mercato Nuovo, and we rubbed the pig’s snout to attract all the good luck!
We returned to the cathedral to access its interior, as I have explained a little above, this visit is mandatory, just like David!
There was no lack of ice cream, pizza and pasta! However none of the places we ate blew me away with their quality or value for money for me to consider worth mentioning here! What we did was use The Fork app, in Italy it works very well and we found quite a few very interesting offers!
