Este post iba a ser sobre un gran viaje a Jordania, desafortunadamente la situación de los países vecinos nos obligó a posponer uno de nuestros viajes más soñados, afortunadamente, lo mejor siempre está por venir, y el destino nos llevó a la preciosa Puglia, en el sur de Italia.

As you may already be imagining, a good car is necessary for a good road trip. The rent a car option is present on almost all of my trips, due to the freedom and comfort it entails, in this case, to reach some of the towns in the ones I will tell you about, was absolutely indispensable! Our rental car was from the Noleggiare company, which has an office at the Bari airport itself, which was our starting and ending point of the trip. For greater peace of mind, I highly recommend choosing comprehensive insurance without excess (which they call platinum), and a full tank, everything was super fast and simple.
DÍA UNO: BARI
Nuestra aventura comenzó en la capital de Puglia, en la bonita ciudad de Bari, donde pasamos las dos primera noches.
Nos alojamos en los apartamentos Palazzo Manzoni, con una ubicación inmejorable en el corazón de la ciudad, a unos diez minutos a pie tanto del casco histórico como de la zona comercial; se trata de un antiguo palazzo totalmente reformado, nuestro apartamento era de dos habitaciones, pero tienen otras opciones. Fue un alojamiento super espacioso, totalmente equipado y decorado con un gusto exquisito. Las dos hermanas fueron encantadoras con nosotros, nos dieron todo tipo de recomendaciones y nos dejaron un regalito a nuestra llegada, algunas delicias típicas y un pequeño pumo de cerámica, un adorno típico que da buena suerte.
Nuestro primer día exploramos Bari sin prisa, me llamaron mucho la atención el centro histórico y el paseo marítimo. Este último me pareció el lugar perfecto para tomar algo al atardecer. Las calles comerciales de Via Sparano y Corso Cavour merecen también sin duda una visita, realmente bonitas!
Puede que os resulte extraña esta recomendación, pero uno de los restaurantes que más disfrutamos en Bari fue un griego llamado Gyrosteria Yannis, buenísimo!
DAY ONE: BARI
Our adventure began in the capital of Puglia, in the beautiful city of Bari, where we spent the first two nights.
We stayed in the Palazzo Manzoni apartments, with an unbeatable location in the heart of the city, about ten minutes walk from both the historic center and the commercial area; It’s an old palazzo completely renovated, our apartment was two bedrooms, but they have other options. It was a super spacious accommodation, fully equipped and decorated with exquisite taste. The two sisters were charming to us, they gave us all kinds of recommendations and left us a little gift upon our arrival, some typical delicacies and a small ceramic pumo, a typical ornament that brings good luck.
Our first day we explored Bari without haste, the historic center and the promenade caught my attention. The latter seemed like the perfect place for a sunset drink.
The shopping streets of Via Sparano and Corso Cavour are also definitely worth a visit, really beautiful!
This recommendation may seem strange to you, but one of the restaurants we enjoyed the most in Bari was a Greek one called Gyrosteria Yannis, delicious!
DÍA DOS: TRANI Y MOLFETTA
En nuestro segundo día cogimos nuestro coche de alquiler (no era realmente necesario para el primero de los días, pues en Bari puede llegarse fácilmente a pie a todas las atracciones turísticas), y pusimos rumbo al norte. Visitamos dos localidades costeras, realmente bonitas y con mucho encanto, Trani y Molfetta.
La primera es algo más grande, muy cuidada y limpia, la segunda es más pequeña, pero sólo por ver la postal de las barquitas que veréis en las siguientes fotografías bien merece una visita!
DAY TWO: TRANI AND MOLFETTA
On our second day we took our rental car (not really necessary for the first day, as in Bari you can easily walk to all the tourist attractions), and headed north.
We visited two coastal towns, really beautiful and charming, Trani and Molfetta. The first is somewhat larger, very well maintained and clean, the second is smaller, but just to see the postcard of the little boats that you will see in the following photographs, it is well worth a visit!
DÍA TRES: POLIGNANO A MARE, MONO POLI Y OSTUNI
Comenzamos nuestro descenso por el sur de Puglia, comenzando con una de las joyas del viaje, uno de esos pueblecitos que encontraréis en todas las guías sobre Puglia, Polignano a Mare.
Una de las grandes suertes del viaje, además del tiempo tan maravilloso que nos hizo, fue que pudimos disfrutar de todos estos pueblecitos tan bellos con una afluencia de turistas bastante razonable, en los meses de temporada alta suelen estar demasiado concurridos, así que poder disfrutarlos con calma fue un auténtico lujo.
Mi parte favorita de este pueblo fueron los miradores, especialmente el que se encuentra bajando las escaleras del Volare, por sus espectaculares vistas de los acantilados, aunque el que está frente a la famosa playa Lama Monachile también es precioso. En general, en todos los pueblos, para mí la mejor recomendación es pasearlos sin prisa y dejarse sorprender por sus rincones. Aquí también encontraréis trozos de poesía escritos en distintas zonas de la localidad, buscadlos, son realmente bonitos!
En Monopoli hicimos una paradita rápida y no tengo dudas que os recomendaría visitar su puerto antiguo!
Ya tarde llegamos a Ostuni, en esta zona pasamos las dos siguientes noches en la Masseria Gorgognolo. Las masserías son antiguas granjas reconvertidas en alojamientos, anteriormente esta fue un restaurante, y hace unos años la alquiló la familia que ahora regenta el negocio, realizó obras, y actualmente tienen la preciosa Masseria que ahora os enseño. Es un lugar realmente bonito, decorado con muy buen gusto en un remanso de auténtica paz. Los desayunos son realmente deliciosos y todos los miembros de la familia que la regenta son maravillosos. Tiene una gran piscina exterior de agua saluda en la que relajarse y tomar el sol, y desde la parte superior se ve el mar. Pasamos un par de días muy tranquilos en medio de la naturaleza, además la masseria tiene una ubicación inmejorable para visitar los pueblos de los que os hablaré a continuación.
Este día conocimos Ostuni de noche (una ciudad también muy recomendable, ya que es una ciudad con muchas luces y mucho encanto) y cenamos en Casa San Giacomo, un precioso restaurante tipo cueva en el que comimos las mejores bombette del viaje, verdaderament exquisitas, y una manzetta prusiana espectacular. Fue una de las cenas más ricas y bonitas del viaje, reservad mesa si pasáis por la zona!
DAY THREE: POLIGNANO A MARE, METROPOLI AND OSTUNI
We begin our descent through the south of Puglia, starting with one of the jewels of the trip, one of those little towns that you will find in all the guides about Puglia, Polignano a Mare.
One of the great lucks of the trip, in addition to the wonderful weather we had, was that we were able to enjoy all these beautiful little towns with a quite reasonable influx of tourists, in the high season months they are usually too crowded, so being able to enjoy them calmly it was a real luxury.
My favorite part of this town were the viewpoints, especially the one located down the Volare stairs, for its spectacular views of the cliffs, although the one in front of the famous Lama Monachile beach is also beautiful. In general, in all towns, for me the best recommendation is to walk through them without haste and let yourself be surprised by their corners. Here you will also find pieces of poetry written in different areas of the town, look for them, they are really beautiful!
We made a quick stop in Monopoli and I have no doubt that I would recommend visiting its old port!
We arrived late in Ostuni, in this area we spent the next two nights at the Masseria Gorgognolo. The masserías are old farms converted into accommodation, previously this was a restaurant, and a few years ago it was rented by the family that now runs the business, they carried out works, and currently they have the beautiful Masseria that I now show you. It is a really beautiful place, decorated with very good taste in a haven of authentic peace. The breakfasts are really delicious and all the family members who own it are wonderful. It has a large outdoor pool of salutary water in which to relax and sunbathe, and from the top you can see the sea. We spent a couple of very quiet days in the middle of nature, and the masseria also has an unbeatable location to visit the towns that I will tell you about below.
This day we visited Ostuni at night (a city also highly recommended, since it is a city with many lights and a lot of charm) and we had dinner at Casa San Giacomo, a beautiful cave-type restaurant where we ate the best bombette of the trip, truly exquisite, and a spectacular Prussian manzetta. It was one of the most delicious and beautiful dinners of the trip, reserve a table if you are in the area!
DÍA CUATRO: OSTUNI, MARTINA FRANCA, CEGLIA MESSAPICA Y CISTERNINO
Aprovechando la ubicación de nuestra masseria, visitamos todos estos pueblecitos (y los del día cinco). Todos ellos son pequeñitos, están relativamente próximos entre sí y a decir verdad tienen muchísimo encanto, tanto de día como de noche. Esto era algo que nos precoupaba un poco, por la época del año y el cambio de hora (que nos pilló en pleno viaje), no teníamos demasiadas horas de luz, pero la verdad es que las aprovechamos muchísimo y por la noche también es muy bonito ver los pueblso con las lucecitas.
DAY FOUR: OSTUNI, MARTINA FRANCA, CEGLIA MESSAPICA AND CISTERNINO
Taking advantage of the location of our masseria, we visited all these little towns (and those on day five). They are all small, they are relatively close to each other and to tell the truth they have a lot of charm, both day and night. This was something that worried us a little, due to the time of year and the time change (which caught us in the middle of the trip), we didn’t have many hours of light, but the truth is that we took advantage of them a lot and at night it is also very nice to see the towns with the lights.
DÍA CINCO: LOCOROTONDO, ALBEROBELLO, BRINDISI Y LECCE
En nuestro quinto día conocimos otra de las joyas de este viaje, tras una pequeña parada en el bonito Locorotondo, muy recomendable en este caso de día, sus callejuelas blancas bien merecen ser vistas con la luz del sol, llegamos a la ciudad de los famosos Trulli, Alberobello! Declarados patrimonio de la humanidad por la Unesco, me gustó mucho ver y fotografiar estas curiosas construcciones. Hay más de 1.600 y es bastante probable que quieras fotografiaer todos, a mi me recordaban muchísimo a las casas de los pitufos.
En nuestro camino en coche hicimos una breve parada en Brindisi, donde nos encantó su rivera, tomamos algo también al atardecer y fue super agradable.
A la hora de cenar llegamo a Lecce, conocida como la Florencia del sur. Allí nos alojamos en Pollicastro Boutique Hotel, en pleno casco histórico de la ciudad, disfrutamos muchísimo de nuestra estancia en este maravilloso hotel en el que nos alojamos en la Suite Grand Deluxe Ninfeo, una preciosa habitación de dos plantas, muy amplia, con chimenea y piscina privada subterránea, un verdadero lujo en el corazón de Lecce. El desayuno fue también increíble, nos lo prepararon en otra de las suites, con unas vistas preciosas sobre la ciudad. También cuentan con servicio de parking en el propio hotel, cocktelería y más servicios. Todo el hotel está decorado con auténticas obras de arte (de hecho los visitantes de la ciudad suelen acceder al hall para fotografiarlas) y todo el personal nos hizo sentir como en nuestra propia casa, fueron un par de días maravillosos.
DAY FIVE: LOCOROTONDO, ALBEROBELLO, BRINDISI AND LECCE
On our fifth day we met another of the jewels of this trip, after a short stop in the beautiful Locorotondo, highly recommended in this case during the day, its white streets well worth seeing in the sunlight, we arrived at the city of the famous Trulli, Alberobello! Declared a world heritage site by UNESCO, I really liked seeing and photographing these curious constructions. There are more than 1,600 and it is quite likely that you will want to photograph all of them, they reminded me a lot of the Smurfs’ houses.
On our way by car we made a brief stop in Brindisi, where we loved its riverside, we also had something at sunset and it was super pleasant.
At dinner time we arrive in Lecce, known as the Florence of the south. There we stayed at the Pollicastro Boutique Hotel, in the historic center of the city. We really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful hotel where we stayed in the Grand Deluxe Ninfeo Suite, a beautiful two-story room, very spacious, with a fireplace and private underground pool, a real luxury in the heart of Lecce. Breakfast was also incredible, they prepared it for us in another of the suites, with beautiful views over the city. They also have parking service at the hotel itself, cocktail bars and more services. The entire hotel is decorated with authentic works of art (in fact, visitors to the city often access the hall to photograph them) and all the staff made us feel at home, it was a wonderful couple of days.
DÍA SEIS: LECCE Y OTRANTO
El siguiente día durante la mañana visitamos sin prisa el casco histórico de Lecce, esta ciudad me sorprendió muchísimo. Tiene una belleza increíble, rodeada de iglesias de estilo mayoritariamente barroco. Una de las sorpresas más gratas fue descubrir «por casualidad» la plaza del Duomo mientras paseábamos por la noche, fue realmente impactante. Como curiosidad os contaré que la plaza era una especie de patio que pertenecía a la iglesia, hasta que se realizó una pequeña abertura hacia una de las calles de la ciudad, convirtiéndola en plaza y permitiendo el acceso a todos los ciudadanos y visitantes.
Aquí comimos la mejor pizza del viaje (y una de las mejores de mi vida), en un local de pizza al taglio llamado Il Pizzicotto, deliciosa!
Nos hubiera gustado visitar algunos pueblos más de esta zona, que tienen mucha fama especialmente en verano por sus playas, pero como no podíamos llegar a todos, nos decidimos por Otranto y fue un gran acierto, tiene un interior precioso amurallado y también un paseo marítimo digno de un café con vistas.
DAY SIX: LECCE AND OTRANTO
The next day in the morning we leisurely visited the historic center of Lecce, this city surprised me a lot. It has incredible beauty, surrounded by mostly baroque style churches. One of the most pleasant surprises was discovering the Duomo square «by chance» while we were walking at night, it was truly shocking. As a curiosity, I will tell you that the square was a kind of patio that belonged to the church, until a small opening was made towards one of the city streets, converting it into a square and allowing access to all citizens and visitors. Here we ate the best pizza of the trip (and one of the best of my life), at a taglio pizza place called Il Pizzicotto, delicious!
We would have liked to visit some more towns in this area, which are very famous especially in summer for their beaches, but since we couldn’t reach them all, we decided on Otranto and it was a great success, it has a beautiful walled interior and also a promenade worthy of a cafe with a view.
DÍA SIETE: MATERA
Nuestra última parada del mundo fue una de las ciudades más antiguas (y bella) del mundo, Matera.
Un sueño que estaba en mi bucket list hace mucho tiempo, nos alojamos en el hotel Corte San Pietro, con una ubicación maravillosa, muy cerca de la iglesias San Pietro Caveoso. Nuestra habitación era un antiguo sassi, con una terraza con unas vistas increíbles sobre el corazón de la ciudad. En la parte subterránea del hotel también pudimos visitar sus cisternas, que nos ayudaron a comprender mejor la ciudad de Matera y su relación con el agua.
Me pasé las algo menos de 24h que estuve en esta ciudad de mirador en mirador, no tenía suficiente en ningún momento, me quedé absolutamente enamorada de esta joya en la que el tiempo parece haberse detenido, y sin duda, volveré!
Con esta joya, ponemos el broche final a un viaje maravilloso, totalmente inesperado y muy especial.

DAY SEVEN: MATERA
Our last stop in the world was one of the oldest (and most beautiful) cities in the world, Matera. A dream that was on my bucket list a long time ago, we stayed at the Corte San Pietro hotel, with a wonderful location, very close to the San Pietro Caveoso churches. Our room was an old sassi, with a terrace with incredible views over the heart of the city. In the underground part of the hotel we were also able to visit its cisterns, which helped us better understand the city of Matera and its relationship with water.
I spent just under 24 hours in this city going from viewpoint to viewpoint, I couldn’t get enough at any time, I fell absolutely in love with this gem where time seems to have stopped, and without a doubt, I will return!
With this gem, we put the finishing touch to a wonderful, totally unexpected and very special trip.
