Vamos con la segunda parada de nuestro gran viaje del verano 2022, Roma, la ciudad eterna!
Como os adelantaba en este post, llegamos a la capital italiana desde Florencia por tren, directos a la estación Termini. Era un día 22 de julio por la noche, así que nada más llegar cogimos un autobús urbano y pusimos rumbo al que fue nuestro primer hotel en la ciudad!
Por lo que al alojamiento respecta, nos alojamos primero en un hotel en el corazón de la ciudad, el Coliseo y la Fontana de Trevi están a poco más de seis minutos andando, se llama Roma Luxus. Es un colorido y bonito hotel boutique de cuatro estrellas, y a parte de su ubicación, si tengo que resaltar otras dos cosas de él, sin duda serían su decoración (hasta el inmueble en el que radica es bonito), y su desayuno, qué delicia! Es a la carta, pero en realidad puedes pedir todo lo que quieras, disfrutamos mucho y me parece una opción maravillosa para explorar el grueso de la ciudad!
En Roma en total estuvimos tres días enteros, el primero llegamos muy tarde y el quinto ya nos marchábamos al que fue nuestro último destino, Creta!
Después de pasar la noche descansando, iniciamos el día con mucha fuerza (bastante necesaria para soportar el calor en esta época del año) y pusimos rumbo al Coliseo, Mercado Trajano, Foro Romano, Campidoglio… en esta zona hay distintos monumentos muy pegados, así que abrid bien los ojos para no perderos nada de esta exposición de arte e historia al aire libre!
Hicimos un descanso para comer en el Hard Rock Café de Roma, ya que nos encanta visitar los de las distintas ciudades a las que viajamos, y además fue la excusa perfecta para pasear por la elegantísima Vía Veneto.
Por la tarde fuimos a las famosas escaleras de Plaza España (donde ya no te puedes sentar), pero sí subirlas y bajarlas todas las veces que quieras! Justo al lado hay una tetería preciosa que si sois amantes del te (o de los dulces) no os podéis perder. No es para nada barata, pero el lugar es muy acogedor y se está realmente a gusto. Seguimos caminando hasta llegar a la Fontana de Trevi, uno de los lugares que más ganas tenía de volver a visitar en la ciudad y… «sorpresa», había cientos de miles de personas, ya no diré que no se podía tirar la moneda o hacer una foto, es que no se podía casi ni mirar. No pensaba irme con esta imagen, así que pronto descubriréis la «solución» que encontramos. Llegó el momento de la puesta de sol, y volvimos a una de las colinas del Coliseo algo que, sin duda, os recomiendo hacer, fue precioso!
Día siguiente, y empezó de un modo que no os imagináis, despertándonos a las cinco y media de la mañana, con idea de estar a las seis en punto en la Fontana de Trevi (hora a la que sale el sol), ya os dije que no me iba a marchar de Roma con ese recuerdo de Trevi. Sin duda madrugar mereció la pena, pudimos ver tranquilamente la fuente, lanzar nuestra moneda con los deseos y hacer algunas fotos, no obstante tengo que deciros que a esas horas ya había bastantes personas (probablemente por la época del año) y como era la madrugada de un domingo nos la encontramos bastante sucias las inmediaciones (con muchos restos de «fiesta») que reconozco que me dio un poco de pena.
Volvimos a nuestro hotel a descansar un ratito y unas horas después pusimos de nuevo rumbo, en esta ocasión nuestra primera parada fue el Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele, personalmente me resulta muy impresionante, os recomiendo subir sus enormes escaleras para contemplar las vista desde lo alto (además es gratis).
Desde ahí nos fuimos directos al Panteón, la Piazza Navona y a probar uno de los mejores tiramisú de la ciudad: Two Sizes. No dejéis de ir porque está realmente bueno! De hecho nosotros fuimos un par de días!
Después de comer dimos un paseo por la orilla del Río Tíber, pasando por el Campo de Fiori, hasta llegar al Castillo de Sant’Angelo (luego os hablaré sobre las entradas a los distintos monumentos), en mis visitas anteriores nunca había entrado y se ha convertido en una de las mejores sorpresas del viaje. Las vistas desde lo alto son increíbles, en mi opinión bien merece una visita.
Al bajarnos cogimos el autobús turístico que nos llevó a la zona de Plaza España de nuevo, allí repetimos el té que tanto nos había gustado e hicimos un poco de shopping por la famosa vía del Corso hasta llegar a la Piazza del Popolo, nuestro día terminó visitando el museo de cera y con un cambio de hotel, el final de nuestro viaje lo hicimos en el Hotel Boutique Vespasiano (de la misma cadena que Roma Luxus), un aliado estupendo para las visitas finales de nuestro viaje a Roma: El Vaticano, ya que se encuentra justo al lado! Es un hotel muy cómodo y tranquilo, de aspecto moderno y también desayuno a la carta. Sin duda muy recomendable para explorar la zona vaticana!
Nuestro último día completo lo dedicamos a explorar a fondo la Basílica de San Pedro, la plaza y los Museos Vaticanos. Cuando terminamos dudamos si acercarnos a pasear por el famoso Trastevere, pero como estábamos algo cansados, preferimos repetir en algunos de nuestros sitios favoritos de la ciudad: Piazza Navona y el tiramisú Two Sizes y la puesta de sol en el Coliseo!
Volvimos a descansar a nuestro hotel, y al día siguiente un transfer de la cadena Roma Luxus nos estaba esperando puntual para llevarnos al aeropuerto. Es un servicio que ofrecen para sus huéspedes y la verdad resulta muy cómodo, máxime si tienes algunas horas aún en la ciudad y las quieres aprovechar. Los vehículos son muy grandes, cómodos y espaciosos, y van a los dos aeropuertos de Roma, sin duda merece la pena!
Como os decía, para las entradas a todos los monumentos utilizamos la Roma CityPass de Turbopass, tenéis que leer bien dónde se canjean todas las entradas, pero aquí nos incluía todo: entrada al Coliseo y al Foro Romano, audioguía en el Panteón, museo de cera, autobús turísticos, museos Vaticanos, Castillo de Sant’Angelo y muchos más! Fue super cómodo y no tuvimos que complicarnos nada para disfrutar a tope la ciudad!
Y con esto me despido por hoy, ahora cogemos un avión y nos vamos rumbo a nuestro último destino: Creta!

Let’s go with the second stop of our great summer 2022 trip, Rome, the eternal city!
As I told you in this post, we arrived in the Italian capital from Florence by train, directly to Termini station. It was July 22 at night, so as soon as we arrived we took a city bus and headed to what was our first hotel in the city!
As far as accommodation is concerned, we stayed first in a hotel in the heart of the city, the Colosseum and the Trevi Fountain are just over six minutes away on foot, it’s called Roma Luxus. It’s a colorful and beautiful four-star boutique hotel, and apart from its location, if I have to highlight two other things about it, it would undoubtedly be its decoration (even the building in which it resides is beautiful), and its breakfast, what a delight ! It’s a la carte, but you can actually order as much as you want, we really enjoyed it and I think it’s a wonderful option to explore the thick of the city!
We spent three full days in Rome in total, the first we arrived very late and the fifth we were already leaving for what was our last destination, Crete!
After spending the night resting, we started the day with a lot of strength (quite necessary to withstand the heat at this time of year) and headed for the Colosseum, Trajan Market, Roman Forum, Campidoglio… in this area there are different monuments very close together, so keep your eyes open so you don’t miss a thing in this outdoor art and history exhibition!
We took a break to eat at the Hard Rock Café in Rome, as we love to visit the ones in the different cities we travel to, and it was also the perfect excuse to stroll along the very elegant Via Veneto.
In the afternoon we went to the famous stairs of Plaza España (where you can no longer sit), but you can go up and down them as many times as you want! Right next door there is a beautiful tea shop that if you love tea (or sweets) you cannot miss it. It’s not cheap at all, but the place is very cozy and you feel really comfortable. We kept walking until we reached the Trevi Fountain, one of the places that I most wanted to visit again in the city and… «surprise», there were hundreds of thousands of people, I won’t say that you couldn’t throw the coin or take a photo, is that you could hardly even look. I wasn’t going to leave with this image, so soon you will discover the «solution» we found. It was time for sunset, and we returned to one of the hills of the Colosseum, something that, without a doubt, I recommend you do, it was beautiful!
Next day, and it started in a way you can’t imagine, waking up at half past five in the morning, with the idea of being at the Trevi Fountain at six o’clock (time the sun rises), I already told you that I was not going to leave Rome with that memory of Trevi. Without a doubt getting up early was worth it, we were able to calmly see the fountain, throw our coin with the wishes and take some photos, however I have to tell you that at that time there were already quite a few people (probably due to the time of year) and since it was early morning On a Sunday we found the area quite dirty (with many «party» remains) which I admit made me a little sad.
We returned to our hotel to rest for a while and a few hours later we set off again, this time our first stop was the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele, personally I find it very impressive, I recommend you climb its enormous stairs to contemplate the view from above ( it’s also free).
From there we went straight to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and to try one of the best tiramisu in the city: Two Sizes. Don’t miss it because it’s really good! In fact we went a couple of days!
After lunch we took a walk along the banks of the Tiber River, passing through the Campo de Fiori, until we reached the Castel Sant’Angelo (later I will tell you about the entrances to the different monuments), in my previous visits I had never entered and It has become one of the best surprises of the trip. The views from the top are incredible, in my opinion well worth a visit.
When we got off we took the tourist bus that took us to the Plaza España area again, there we repeated the tea that we had liked so much and did a bit of shopping along the famous Via del Corso until we reached Piazza del Popolo, our day ended visiting the wax museum and with a change of hotel, the end of our trip we did at the Hotel Boutique Vespasiano (from the same chain as Roma Luxus), a great ally for the final visits of our trip to Rome: The Vatican, since it is right next door! It’s a very comfortable and quiet hotel, with a modern look and also a la carte breakfast. Definitely highly recommended for exploring the Vatican area!
Our last full day is dedicated to thoroughly exploring St. Peter’s Basilica, the square and the Vatican Museums. When we finished we doubted whether to go for a walk through the famous Trastevere, but since we were a bit tired, we preferred to repeat in some of our favorite places in the city: Piazza Navona and the Two Sizes tiramisu and the sunset at the Colosseum!
We went back to our hotel to rest, and the next day a transfer from the Roma Luxus chain was waiting for us on time to take us to the airport. It’s a service that they offer for their guests and the truth is that it is very comfortable, especially if you still have a few hours in the city and want to take advantage of them. The vehicles are very large, comfortable and spacious, and they go to both airports in Rome, definitely worth it!
As I was saying, for the tickets to all the monuments we use the Rome CityPass from Turbopass, you have to read carefully where all the tickets are exchanged, but here everything was included: entrance to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, audio guide in the Pantheon, museum of wax, tourist bus, Vatican museums, Castel Sant’Angelo and many more! It was super comfortable and we didn’t have to complicate anything to fully enjoy the city!
And with this I say goodbye for today, now we take a plane and we go to our last destination: Crete!
